GUYS FOR LIFE INTERNATIONAL:
Dear friends,
At Guys For Life, we are privileged to work closely with great guys dedicated to loving new fathers and their children. Some efforts start small such as a pregnancy care center reaching guys with brochures and user-friendly resources. Other efforts expand into something more such as those same centers hiring staff and recruiting men's mentoring teams dedicated to the growth of a loving family. Through strategic resources that include support for fatherhood development and trained, certified mentors, Guys For Life is turning the tide against a culture that devalues the essence of family.
Leading hearts and minds through a culture that is hostile towards biblical fatherhood and family requires more than a just a few good guys to love other guys. Sustainable partnerships and cooperation within the body of Christ are also needed to lead cultural change and endure it. What can Guys For Life do to promote the essence of fatherhood and the value of family? As our organization has focused on leading pregnancy care centers to re-think and change their approach to working not only with young women but to now include working with men, we have learned what is vital to leading young fathers to do more than just 'step up to the plate'. When we ask young dads what would help them in their new role, in addition to immediate support of handling a pregnancy, we hear what they really need is to develop their leadership skills. As new dads, they often do not have someone to model successful fatherhood, and they want someone to stick with them as they learn how to do it.
We are inspired by the devotion of male mentors at over three hundred pregnancy care centers. Together with dads, they solve problems and create positive opportunities for men and their families. While we're dedicated to leading young men to understand “There's no substitute for you," we also cultivate real life learning experiences where young men learn from guys who've been there, done that and have flourished for God's greater reward.
To help continue this support, Guys For Life International is taking several steps:
• We will continue to the support leadership development for our mentors, helping them lead men through current changes and challenges which young men and our culture present them.
• We will continue to expand to new frontiers, engaging additional channels to reach men. These frontiers include national youth ministries, The Church itself, and beyond.
• We will develop additional product lines and resources that 'bridge the gap' socially between mentors and disciples using social media, internet media and film.
We know that changing hearts and minds, particularly long-lasting cultural changes that impact and restore fatherhood and family, takes time. To that end, we remain committed to developing loving and accountable relationships through male mentors as the best strategy for strengthening fathers where young families contend with the challenges that life throws at them.
The Guys For Life board and staff would like to take this opportunity to stress
our thanks for your support in helping us solve together, through the strength
and grace of Jesus Christ, the challenges faced by young fathers. One of the
things we admire most about our partners is their ability to connect themselves
as members of the Guys For Life family. As Jesus himself said, "Now a slave has
no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever." You are our
family, these men are our family and as a family together, we will shine.
